MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A Shelby County grand jury will hear rape and other charges against Xavier Crawford, who was Tennessee's Mr. Football for Class 2A in 1987.
Crawford, 39, waived a preliminary hearing Thursday, automatically sending rape, kidnapping and assault charges to the grand jury.
According to The Commercial Appeal, he was arrested in February after authorities said he threatened to kill an 18-year-old pregnant woman with a barbecue fork during a rape and assault.
Crawford was known as the "X-Man" during his football career at Trezevant High. He also played briefly for the University of Memphis.
He is being held on $2.5 million bond.comments powered by Disqus
