Bristol police cracking down on Holston Ave. speeders

June 8th, 2009 12:00 am by Staff Report

According to the Bristol Herald Courier police have beefed up patrols on Holston Ave. to cut down on speeding.

Holston Avenue is a straight two-lane road that starts on the Volunteer Parkway near  Applebee’s then parallels the Parkway until it intersects with Holston Drive, which  reconnects with the Parkway beside First Tennessee Bank.

Combined, the two streets form a two-mile shortcut that gives drivers a chance to skip three stoplights and shave minutes from their trips. People who live on the street say their neighborhood is rife with speeders, and they are worried for their children’s safety.

“Any time we get citizen complaints about speeding in any area of the city, we do extra traffic patrols,” said Capt. Matt Austin, who supervises the Bristol Tennessee Police Department’s patrol division.

Police say the number of speeding tickets on the street is increasing.
