Eastman Chemical Co. has been fined $48,000 for violating regulations of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
According to a state order dated April 14, Eastman was ordered to pay half of the $48,000 fine, while the remaining $24,000 penalty will be waived if the Kingsport-based company follows a compliance schedule in a timely fashion.
The violations stemmed from inappropriate monitoring at the Kingsport facility, leaks in certain equipment, and not repairing leaks within the required time frame.
Eastman spokeswoman Betty Payne said the company discovered the violations between April 2007 and March 2008 and disclosed them to the state.
“Basically they were largely related to missed equipment monitoring,” Payne said.comments powered by Disqus
