According to a report by the Bristol Herald Courier Michael Dwayne Jackson was choking back tears in court Monday when apologized over and over for shooting a Washington County (Va.) sheriff’s deputy in 2007.
“I’m going to grow old in prison, I know that, but that is what drugs do to you,” said Jackson, 41, who entered his guilty plea in Washington County Circuit Court with an agreement to serve 30 years behind bars.
“If I had just honored my mother and daddy, I wouldn’t be here,” he said.
Jackson pleaded guilty to attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. All the offenses are felonies
The crimes occurred on Nov. 20, 2007, when Lt. Scott Snapp, in an effort to arrest Jackson on bad check warrants, was shot at close range when he opened the door to Jackson’s trailer on Childress Hollow Road.
