Bristol police officer bruised, shaken after wreck while chasing suspect

May 21st, 2009 12:00 am by Staff Report

The Bristol Herald Courier is reporting that a police officer involved in a wreck in his cruiser Monday night suffered only bruises in the crash, officers with the Bristol Tennessee Police Department said Wednesday.

“The officer is doing fine,” Patrol Capt. Matt Austin said, speaking about Patrolman Jody Camper.

“He’s just a little shaken up, but he was treated and released from the hospital and he’ll be back to work on his regular duty, so there was no lost time at work,” Austin said.

The crash occurred about 8 p.m. Monday, at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and East Cedar Street, as Camper was chasing a suspect in an assault case, said Sullivan County Sheriff’s Lt. B.J. Richardson, a public information officer for the department. The sheriff’s office investigated the crash because of the involvement of the Bristol, Tenn., police officer.
