Reward offered for tips in shooting death of Knoxville man

May 8th, 2009 12:00 am by Staff Report

The Knoxville News Sentinel is reporting that family and friends have offered a $5,000 reward for any tips leading to an arrest and conviction in the killing of Bill Graves, the husband and father shot by an intruder over the weekend.

"God did not take my husband," said his wife, Vickie, as she prepared for his funeral Thursday. "His life ended at the hands of some scum. He died a senseless death."

Graves, 52, was watching television Saturday with his wife at their home, 9920 Washington Pike, when two men with bandannas over their faces and guns in their hands broke in around 9 p.m. Graves struggled with one of the men, who shot him in the left thigh.

He died the next day at University of Tennessee Medical Center. Authorities still seek the killers.

The robbers got away with a safe that Knox County Sheriff's Office deputies found lying open in the middle of the road about 100 yards west of the house. Graves' widow said the safe had nothing in it worth stealing - and nothing worth a man's life.
