Hendersonville man charged in rape of child at church preschool

May 6th, 2009 12:00 am by Staff Report

According to a report in the Tennessean an 18-year-old man has been charged with raping a 4-year-old girl at a church preschool.

Andrew C. Glidwell was charged last week with rape of a child, in an incident police say occurred on Friday at Children First Preschool, at the First United Methodist Church. On Monday, two counts of sexual battery of a child were added over other incidents involving the same child, said Hendersonville Police Chief Terry Frizzell.

In a written statement, Michael E. Williams, pastor of the church, said: "All the proper authorities have been notified, and they are in the process of investigating the accusation. The church is cooperating fully with these agencies."

Tennessee's Department of Human Services says the day care has a 160-child capacity and serves children ages 6 weeks to 5 years.

Glidwell was a substitute teacher at the preschool, according to a police news release. Williams described Glidwell in his statement as an employee.

Frizzell said detectives and the Department of Children's Services will interview other children Glidwell had access to at the preschool.
