Greene County student, 15, faces filing false threat by text message

May 4th, 2009 12:00 am by Staff Report

According to the Greeneville Sun a 15-year-old Chuckey-Doak High School student has been charged in Greene County Juvenile Court in connection with an incident that occurred during the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security disaster drill conducted at the school Thursday morning.

The student, whose was not identified, was charged with the equivalent of filing a false report, according to Greene County Sheriff Steve Burns.

The sheriff explained that the statute under which the student was charged was the one that law enforcement authorities usually cite in cases where, for instance, a juvenile has made a false bomb threat.

Tusculum Police Chief Danny Greene, who had also been in charge of site security at the school for the disaster drill, said the boy sent out a text message to an undetermined number of other students saying he was angry, had a gun, and was going to take it to school on Thursday and kill some people.

The text message invited the recipients of the message to participate in what he planned to do at the school.
