Sullivan County's personal per capital income up 5.3%; area counties also show increases

Total per capita personal income in Sullivan County increased 5.3 during 2007 according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

All of the selected counties in the Tri-Cities/East Tenn.-Va. region region posted an increase in the personal per capital income. Sullivan County's incrase was the largest and Hamblen Countie's increasae of 2.1 percent was the lowest.


BEA released estimates of personal income at the county level for 2007 based on newly available source data Thursday.


 


 


 


Personal income is a comprehensive measure of the income of all persons from all sources. In addition to wages and salaries, it includes employer-provided health insurance, dividends and interest income, social security benefits, and other types of income.


Sullivan County
Per capital person income

Sullivan County had a per capita personal income  of $32,141 in 2007, and is ranked 11th in the state. That income level is  96 percent of the state average, $33,395, and 83 percent of the national average, $38,615.

The 2007 figure is an increase of 4.6 percent from 2006. The 2006-2007 state change was 3.8 percent and the national change was 4.9 percent.

Total personal income
Sullivan had a total personal income  of $4,929,097*. This figure ranks 9th in the state and accounted for 2.4 percent of the state total. In 1997 the TPI of Sullivan was $3,350,954* and ranked 7th in the state. The 2007 TPI reflected an increase of 5.3 percent from 2006. The 2006-2007 state change was 5.2 percent and the national change was 6.0 percent. The 1997-2007 average annual growth rate of TPI was 3.9 percent. The average annual growth rate for the state was 5.1 percent and for the nation was 5.4 percent.

Earnings of persons employed in Sullivan increased from $3,915,103* in 2006 to $4,076,236* in 2007, an increase of 4.1 percent. The 2006-2007 state change was 3.5 percent and the national change was 4.9 percent. The average annual growth rate from the 1997 estimate of $2,836,719* to the 2007 estimate was 3.7 percent. The average annual growth rate for the state was 5.1 percent and for the nation was 5.4 percent.

Washington Co. Tenn.
Personal per capita income

In 2007 Washington had a per capita personal income  of $30,516 and ranks18th in the state and was 91 percent of the state average, $33,395, and 79 percent of the national average, $38,615. The 2007 PCPI reflected an increase of 4.4 percent from 2006. The 2006-2007 state change was 3.8 percent and the national change was 4.9 percent. In 1997 the PCPI of Washington was $21,054 and ranked 20th in the state. The 1997-2007 average annual growth rate of PCPI was 3.8 percent. The average annual growth rate for the state was 3.9 percent and for the nation was 4.3 percent.

In 2007 Washington County had a total personal income (TPI) of $3,554,221*. This TPI ranked 11th in the state and accounted for 1.7 percent of the state total. In 1997 the TPI of Washington was $2,191,136* and ranked 10th in the state. The 2007 TPI reflected an increase of 6.1 percent from 2006. The 2006-2007 state change was 5.2 percent and the national change was 6.0 percent. The 1997-2007 average annual growth rate of TPI was 5.0 percent. The average annual growth rate for the state was 5.1 percent and for the nation was 5.4 percent.

Earnings of persons employed in Washington increased from $2,842,816* in 2006 to $2,975,287* in 2007, an increase of 4.7 percent. The 2006-2007 state change was 3.5 percent and the national change was 4.9 percent. The average annual growth rate from the 1997 estimate of $1,824,347* to the 2007 estimate was 5.0 percent. The average annual growth rate for the state was 5.1 percent and for the nation was 5.4 percent. 

Greene County
Per Capita Personal Income

In 2007 Greene had a per capita personal income (PCPI) of $31,490. This PCPI ranked 13th in the state and was 94 percent of the state average, $33,395, and 82 percent of the national average, $38,615. The 2007 PCPI reflected an increase of 3.7 percent from 2006. The 2006-2007 state change was 3.8 percent and the national change was 4.9 percent. In 1997 the PCPI of Greene was $18,950 and ranked 44th in the state. The 1997-2007 average annual growth rate of PCPI was 5.2 percent. The average annual growth rate for the state was 3.9 percent and for the nation was 4.3 percent.

In 2007 Greene had a total personal income (TPI) of $2,073,486*. This TPI ranked 18th in the state and accounted for 1.0 percent of the state total. In 1997 the TPI of Greene was $1,141,004* and ranked 20th in the state. The 2007 TPI reflected an increase of 4.5 percent from 2006. The 2006-2007 state change was 5.2 percent and the national change was 6.0 percent. The 1997-2007 average annual growth rate of TPI was 6.2 percent. The average annual growth rate for the state was 5.1 percent and for the nation was 5.4 percent.

The average annual growth rate for the state was 5.1 percent and for the nation was 5.4 percent.

Hamblen, Tennessee

In 2007 Hamblen had a per capita personal income (PCPI) of $27,007. This PCPI ranked 41st in the state and was 81 percent of the state average, $33,395, and 70 percent of the national average, $38,615. The 2007 PCPI reflected an increase of 2.1 percent from 2006. The 2006-2007 state change was 3.8 percent and the national change was 4.9 percent. In 1997 the PCPI of Hamblen was $20,500 and ranked 27th in the state. The 1997-2007 average annual growth rate of PCPI was 2.8 percent. The average annual growth rate for the state was 3.9 percent and for the nation was 4.3 percent.

In 2007 Unicoi had a per capita personal income (PCPI) of $28,420. This PCPI ranked 31st in the state and was 85 percent of the state average, $33,395, and 74 percent of the national average, $38,615. The 2007 PCPI reflected an increase of 4.8 percent from 2006. The 2006-2007 state change was 3.8 percent and the national change was 4.9 percent. In 1997 the PCPI of Unicoi was $18,919 and ranked 47th in the state. The 1997-2007 average annual growth rate of PCPI was 4.2 percent. The average annual growth rate for the state was 3.9 percent and for the nation was 4.3 percent.

In 2007 Unicoi had a total personal income (TPI) of $502,558*. This TPI ranked 64th in the state and accounted for 0.2 percent of the state total. In 1997 the TPI of Unicoi was $329,305* and ranked 63rd in the state. The 2007 TPI reflected an increase of 5.2 percent from 2006. The 2006-2007 state change was 5.2 percent and the national change was 6.0 percent. The 1997-2007 average annual growth rate of TPI was 4.3 percent. This PCPI ranked 74th in the state and was 72 percent of the state average, $33,395, and 62 percent of the national average, $38,615. The 2007 PCPI reflected an increase of 4.9 percent from 2006. The 2006-2007 state change was 3.8 percent and the national change was 4.9 percent. In 1997 the PCPI of Carter was $16,183 and ranked 76th in the state. The 2007 PCPI reflected an increase of 3.7 percent from 2006. The 2006-2007 state change was 3.7 percent and the national change was 4.9 percent. In 1997 the PCPI of Lee was $15,625 and ranked 100th in the state. The 1997-2007 average annual growth rate of PCPI was 4.5 percent. The average annual growth rate for the state was 4.7 percent and for the nation was 4.3 percent.

The data released Thursday completes the  more detailed series of data releases depicting the geographic distribution of the nation's personal income for 2007. National estimates typically are released one month after the end of the year, state estimates are released two months later, and metropolitan area estimates for 2007 were released in August 2008.
