According to a report in the Knoxville News Sentinel a Heiskell woman says she is baffled why a neighbor she didn't know shot and killed Rosie, her 6-pound, purebred Chihuahua, in front of her.
"She was my baby," Fay Loriaux, 72, said of her pet, shot through the left eye on the animal's third birthday. "She slept with me. She ate with me. She did everything with me."
Daniel R. Smith, 31, of Heiskell is free on $30,000 bond on charges of intentional killing an animal and reckless endangerment. He faces a preliminary hearing April 30 in Anderson County General Sessions Court. Smith and Loriaux are neighbors.
She said she let Rosie out of her house Saturday and the dog wandered over into Smith's back yard. "All the dogs here run loose," she said.
"I didn't ever let my dog out without me being there," Loriaux said. She said she heard a "loud pop" and then saw her pet collapse.
