April 16th, 2009 12:00 am by Staff Report

According to a report by the Morristown Citizen Tribune   an 11 year-old girl killed Wednesday morning in a high-speed, single-vehicle crash on Old Russellville Pike, was not wearing a seatbelt.

Citing the age of the victim, Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Erik Raines declined to release the name of the deceased girl or her 10-year-old brother, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the 8:45 a.m. crash.

Teresa Ayers, community coordinator for Hamblen County schools, says the girl was sixth-grader at East Ridge Middle School.

The children’s mother and driver of the pickup, 29-year-old Becky Long, was listed in critical condition at Wellmont-Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport Wednesday evening, according to the trooper.

This morning, a hospital spokeswoman said Long was in an intensive-care unit, but did not release information on her medical condition.
