CLINTON - According to a report in the Knoxville News Sentinel the Anderson County High girls' softball coach resigned Monday afternoon after a school probe of an initiation where freshmen players were made to stand semi-nude in a swimming pool.

Principal Greg Deal said Heather Branum submitted her resignation as coach. In her letter of resignatgion she apologized for the hazing event and accepted full repsponsibility.

Branum will remain as a special-education teacher at the 1,100-student school.

Deal said Branum came under scrutiny for a hazing incident that occurred while the team was attending a spring break tournament at Myrtle Beach, S.C., March 16-20.

Seven freshmen members of the girls' team were told by other players to wear only one article of clothing while standing for seven minutes in an in-ground swimming pool, Deal said. Five of the freshmen were semi-nude, he said.
