The Morristown Citizen Tribune is reporting that the City Council has voted to fire police officer Barry Hardin, who reportedly is the target of an ongoing Tennessee Bureau of Investigation inquiry involving prescription drugs.
Morristown Police Chief Roger Overholt said Hardin allegedly admitted to "casual exchange of prescription narcotics" during an MPD internal affairs investigation.
No criminal charges have been filed against the officer, who worked at the police department for 14 years. Hardin did not attend Tuesday’s council meeting.
"This is an unfortunate situation for the police department and the city," Overholt said. "We also understand this is a difficult time for Mr. Hardin and his family. The council’s approval of his termination completes the city’s administrative process at this point."
