The Bristol Herald-Courier is reporting that Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co. will close its Glade Spring plant May 15. The move eleminated 119 jobs.
“Due to current economic uncertainty we are not able to identify a specific date for reopening the plant and are therefore required by the WARN Act to characterize the closure as permanent,” according to the letter, which was addressed to Washington County Board of Supervisors Chairman Kenneth Reynolds.
Utility employees were told of the closing Friday, the same date the letter was sent to the county.
On Wednesday, Plant Manager Jack Washburn said the closure is only temporary, and he is hopeful the facility, which manufactures dry van trailers, won’t have to close at all.
