Morristown police chief says traffic cameras will improve traffic safety

March 9th, 2009 12:00 am by Staff Report

Morristown Police Chief Roger Overholt says he wants to dispel  misconception that red-light cameras are unchecked Orwellian intrusions for the sole purpose of raking in cash.

According to a report in the Morristown Citizen-Tribune, living, breathing police officers review each alleged speeding or red-light infraction before a citation is authorized.

If there’s a doubt, the police chief says, the ticket doesn’t go out. In fact, the chief told the Citizen-Tribune, the Morristown red-light cameras are programmed to  give motorists breaks.
