Two injured in Johnson City house fire; reports of people jumping from second story

March 4th, 2009 12:00 am by Rain Smith

Two people have been transported for treatment following an early morning house fire in Johnson City.

Fire officials say there are unconfirmed reports of people jumping from the second story to avoid the flames.

The Johnson City Fire Department arrived to 711 Montgomery St. at 4:16 Wednesday morning. First responders found the home 50 percent involved, and a heavy concentration of flames at the front of the residence. Officials say four people were in the home at the time of the fire, but they had evacuated by the time units arrived.

According to a press release from JCFD, there were unconfirmed reports that the occupants jumped from the second-story window. If this occurred, it was prior to the arrival of the fire department.

EMS transported two victims to the Johnson City Medical Center. While the exact extent of the injuries are not known, they are not thought to be life threatening.

"Once we knew everyone was out of the structure, we began an exterior attack on the fire," said Lt. Rick Arnold. "We were able to knock the fire down enough that we could eventual make entry."

Though crews were able to extinguish the flames, the home was a total loss. The Red Cross has been contacted and will be working with the victims.
