Middle school wrestling match ends after parent head-butts referee

March 4th, 2009 12:00 am by Staff Report

According to the Knoxville New Sentinel a wrestling match between two Jefferson County middle schools ended on a violent note when an enraged parent head-butted a referee.

The parent was charged with misdemeanor assault, said Sgt. Richard Collins. Another person at the match allegedly became unruly toward police officers who responded to the scene and was charged with disorderly conduct.

“We had a lot of angry people,” he said.

Apparently, the father of one wrestler was angered by the disqualification of a Maury wrestler, rushed onto the court and then head-butted the official, Collins said. It wasn’t clear if the alleged attacker’s son was the wrestler who was disqualified, he said.
