Hawkins County jail escapee charged with three more armed robberies

The Greeneville Sun is reporting that a Hawkins County jail escapee  captured last week has been charged with three more Greeneville convenience store robberies.

Travis Wayne Gunter, 26, 215 Woodland Ave., Church Hill, was charged in arrest warrants filed by Greeneville Police Department Det. Lieutenants Pat Hankins and Ray Allen, Jr.

Lt. Allen charged Gunter with the Dec. 26 armed robbery of Quick Stop No. 10 at 301 Asheville Highway and the May 11, 2008, armed robbery of the same store.

 Lt. Hankins  charged Gunter with aggravated robbery in connection with the Feb. 5 robbery of the Quick Stop market at the corner of Snapps Ferry Road and Kiser Boulevard.

Gunter escaped from the Hawkins County jail last week, stole a truck and drove it to Greeneville where he committed the Snapps Ferry Road robbery, according to reports.

He had been jailed in Hawkins County on robbery and other charges.

Gunter was arrested Feb. 5 by detectives from the Greeneville Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff's Department inside an apartment at the Twin Oaks Village Apartments on Arnold Road.
