CLARKSVILLE — The Dobyns-Bennett wrestling team’s first trip to the state duals yielded mixed results.

The Indians went 1-1 on the first day of the TSSAA Class AAA meet at Clarksville High School. D-B beat Halls 49-21 in the first round, then lost 50-21 to defending state champion Bradley Central in the quarterfinals.

“The thing I told them before the match, I can handle mistakes but I can’t handle lack of effort,” Tribe coach Buzzy Mann said. “Our kids fought hard. I was impressed with their effort and getting after it.”

Four victories by pin in five matches helped propel D-B past Halls, the Region 2 champ. Bradley Central overwhelmed the Tribe one round later, leaping out to a 35-0 advantage before D-B put up any team points.

The Tribe (26-7) face Science Hill in the consolation bracket today at noon Eastern time, and would need to win three duals to reach the third-place match.
