According to the Greeneville Sun Tenn. Sens. Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker are criticizing the economic stimulus bill passed the House on Wednesday. Rep. Phil Roe, like all other GOP House members, voted against the bill Wednesday.
Asked for a statement on the stimulus package, Sen. Alexander said Wednesday in an e-mail to The Greeneville Sun that Congress should, "First, fix the problem: housing. Include tax relief that creates more jobs. And don't spend money we don't have on programs that don't create jobs now."
In a separate e-mail to the Sun, Corker said, "I appreciate President Obama coming to the Hill on Tuesday and I enjoyed having an opportunity to talk with him about this, but I can't imagine how thinking people really believe that throwing a potpourri of spending in multiple directions can have anything to do with stimulating the economy."
Corker told the Sun, "Until our credit market and housing situations are rectified and private businesses can borrow money and create jobs, anything we do as it relates to spending is like throwing money in a mud puddle."
