Kingsport police officer injured in Stone Drive crash

January 26th, 2009 12:00 am by Staff Report

KINGSPORT — A Kingsport Police Department officer was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center Monday night after being involved in a collision. Wellmont Health System spokesman Brad Lifford said Tuesday that the officer was treated and released.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Robert Greer said the two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Stone Drive and New Beason Well Road.

Greer said a KPD cruiser being driven by Officer Justin Fleenor was southbound on Stone Drive as he approached the intersection with New Beason Well Road and had the right of way with a green light.

Fleenor was proceeding through the intersection when a vehicle driven by a male juvenile heading northbound on Stone Drive attempted to turn left onto New Beason Well Road and struck his patrol car, the THP trooper said.

Greer said the juvenile will be served with citations for failure to yield the right of way.
