According to a report in the Bristol Herald Courier Bristol, Va. city leaders plan to seek another source of financial protection since plans to form an independent governing authority at Tri-Cities Regional Airport are grounded by uncertainty.
Bristol, Va., is one of six local governments that share ownership of the, but it's the only one of the group not covered by Tennessee’s tort liability insurance. That means that it could be liable for an unlimited amount of money if there were a judgment in a catastrophic accident or other lawsuit. State insurance caps damages for Tennessee-based governments at $450,000.
