Two killed, three hurt in 3-car wreck

December 22nd, 2008 12:00 am by Staff Report

According to the Morristown-Citizen Tribune two men died and three people were taken to the hospital after a three-vehicle collision Friday night on East Highway 25/70 in Jefferson County.

Wayne E. Wise, 48, Old Newport Highway, Dandridge, and a passenger in his vehicle, Ricky L. Rainwater, 50, Parsonage Road, White Pine, died at the wreck near the Airpark Road intersection, according to Trooper John Woods.

The officer said Wise, who was driving a 2007 Mercury, tried to pass a westbound 1995 GEO driven by Richard R. Larsen, 19, Alex Drive, Jefferson City.

The Mercury collided with an  eastbound 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 42-year-old Dandridge resident Joseph Sneed, head-on, according to Woods.

Rainwater, a passenger in the rear of the Mercury, was not wearing a seat belt, however Woods said a restraining device would have saved his life.
