Auditors found no big problems with Tennessee higher education chiefs' annual travel expenses, but in a time of slashed budgets and higher tuition the numbers will be controversial.
According to the Tennessean one college president charged $1,500 for he and his wife to go to Barbados, West Indies, on university business.
Another spent $4,700 for a pep rally, reception and other expenses at a football bowl game in Tampa. Still, another spent $5,700 to travel with his wife to meetings and a commencement address at a university in Ethiopia.
