Rogersville police seeking suspect in shooting

December 9th, 2008 12:00 am by Jeff Bobo

ROGERSVILLE — Rogersville police were investigating a shooting late Tuesday night in the vicinity of the Wal-Mart parking lot.

Rogersville Police Chief Doug Nelson told the Times-News there was one victim, and one suspect was being sought.

But other details were sparse as the Rogersville Police Department’s investigation continued late into the evening.

Nelson said he could not comment on the condition or the identity of the victim.

He said one person was wounded by gunfire about 8:30 p.m. in the vicinity of the Wal-Mart parking lot on Route 66.

The victim was transported to a hospital, but by 10:30 p.m. Tuesday Nelson said he didn’t know if he was dealing with a fatal shooting as of yet.

“We’re still gathering information,” Nelson said. “There’s no suspect in custody. At this time we don’t have a motive for the shooting.

“It’s too early to say much more than that.”
