Knox County slayings painted as cold-blooded killings

December 3rd, 2008 12:00 am by Staff Report

As itineraries go, it was a busy one.

Kill.

Eat.

Kill again.

Shop.

Worship.

According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel it was with a tone of disgust that Assistant District Attorney General Leslie Nassios on Tuesday ticked off the weekend activities of double-slaying suspects Andrew Bryan Mann and Amanda Dawn McGhee as both macabre and mundane.

Nassios did so in a bid to prove to jurors in Knox County Criminal Court that Mann, who is standing trial this week in the June 2007 slayings of McGhee's father and stepmother, was not a then-21-year-old lovesick man driven to kill to protect his teenage lover but instead a cold-blooded killer.

"What was the first thing out of his mouth?" Nassios asked jurors in Judge Richard Baumgartner's courtroom Tuesday. " 'I just got tired of them talking about me like I'm a piece of (expletive) on the side of the road.' "
