Two men arrested for illegal waste dumping

December 3rd, 2008 12:00 am by Staff Report

Two men have been arrested for illegally dumping four drums of toxic chemicals in South Knox County, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel the men - identified as James Emert, 26, and Antonio Smith, 24, both of Knoxville - were being held in lieu of $7,500 bond, said Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Martha Dooley. They were charged with violating the Hazardous Waste Management Act.

An arrest warrant has also been issued for a third suspect, Dooley said.

"The suspects were paid to properly dispose of four 55 gallon drums of unknown hazardous chemicals from Peachtree Pointe Farms in Blount County to a recycling plant in Knox County," a Sheriff's Office press release said.
