Rogersville woman claims stalker tried to abduct her

December 2nd, 2008 12:00 am by Jeff Bobo

BULLS GAP — An employee at the U.S. Fence plant in Bulls Gap told the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office last week that a co-worker followed her home from work last Tuesday night and attempted to pull her into his vehicle.

Evelyn Bowman, of Rogersville, told the HCSO she was in fear that the man might follow and abduct her in the future. She described the man as a Hispanic male driving a green Ford Explorer who came to work at the plant through a temp service.

She said the man had made statements that he would follow her home, and Bowman claims that Tuesday evening around 7:15 p.m. he did just that.

She said that after work she hid behind the Greene Bank for about 10 minutes before taking Highway 11-E to Interstate 81.

Bowman told the HCSO that just before reaching the Baileyton exit the man pulled beside her on the interstate, at which time she went to a truck stop and waited inside the store hoping the man would leave, but he didn’t.

She then attempted to drive home, followed by the man, and at a stop sign she reportedly got out of her vehicle and told the man, “No. Go away.”

She said the man then tried to push her into the back seat of his vehicle.

She managed to escape and fled to a residence in the Beech Creek community, where she found help from a person who chased the man away.

Hawkins County Sheriff Roger Christian said Monday that the incident is still under investigation.
