Sullivan voters pick Hall, Long to fill seats on commission

BLOUNTVILLE — About 13.4 percent of Sullivan County’s 86,632 registered voters cast ballots in political races Thursday, according to unofficial results released by the Sullivan County Election Commission after close of polls.


In all, 11,610 voters cast ballots, including early and absentee ballots — which totaled 4,389.


For the last comparable Election Day, in August 2004, turnout was 12,355 of 84,785 registered voters, or 14.57 percent.


Election results won’t be official until certified by the Sullivan County Election Commission, scheduled to meet Aug. 14 at noon to take that action.


Unofficial results in the Sullivan County general election include:


•Sullivan County Commission, District 6 (to serve remaining two years on unexpired term of the late Howard Patrick): Larry Hall, 642; Matthew Jerry Johnson, 431; Craig Ramey, 237; Bobby Brooks, 195; Rodger K. Jones, 145.


•Sullivan County Commission, District 3 (to serve remaining two years on unexpired term of the late Ralph Harr): Bart Long, 235; Robert W. Neal, 136.


•Sullivan County Property Assessor Bob Icenhour (R), with no opposition, won re-election with 77.22 percent of the vote.


•Sullivan County Board of Education, District 1, Jack Bales, with no opposition, won re-election with 1,287 votes — or 74.91 percent of ballots cast in the race.


•Sullivan County BOE, District 3, Jim Kiss, with no opposition, won re-election with 1,214 votes — or 67.03 percent of ballots cast in the race.


•Sullivan County BOE, District 5, Ronald E. Smith, with no opposition, won re-election with 1,467 votes — or 68.97 percent of ballots cast in the race.


•Sullivan County BOE, District 7, Betty J. Combs, with no opposition, won re-election with 1,050 votes — or 70.75 percent of ballots cast in the race.
