Washington County man pleads guilty to child pornography charges

July 28th, 2008 12:00 am by Matthew Lane

GREENEVILLE — A Washington County man pleaded guilty Monday to federal child pornography charges involving a 16-year-old Colorado girl.

Jason Brad Ford, 28, pleaded guilty to two child pornography charges in U.S. District Court in Greeneville. The two charges were production of child pornography and using a means of interstate commerce to induce a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity.

Ford faces 15 to 30 years in prison on the first charge and 10 years to life in prison on the second charge, along with a maximum fine of $250,000 on each charge. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 8.

According to court records, in 2006 Ford met a 15-year-old girl on MySpace.com from Craig, Colo., going by the name J.J. Prosecutors say Ford provided J.J. a webcam and from August 2007 until February 2008 directed her to engage in sexually explicit conduct and then recorded the activity and saved the files on his computer.

Ford produced 65 videos of J.J. engaged in sexually explicit conduct and shared the videos over the Internet. The girl was 16 years old at the time.

Ford was arrested on June 27 after a joint investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation established that J.J. had arranged to meet him in Knoxville on July 16. Ford fled when law enforcement officers drove to his home to arrest him and has been in custody since his arrest on June 27.

Prosecutors say at the time of the events, Ford was divorced and unemployed.

A federal grand jury indicted Ford on four charges on July 8 — the two aforementioned charges, along with receiving child pornography and possession of a computer containing child pornography images. These last two charges will be dismissed at Ford’s sentencing in December.
