KINGSPORT — If you have an idea for a new business, product or service, or you’re an entrepreneur, inventor or a new business owner, you might want to attend the Innovation Expo & Workshop Saturday at the MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center in Kingsport.

The event will feature resources that can help turn ideas into business realities. It will also help existing businesses learn ways to grow.

The expo will feature educational workshops and exhibits from key service providers for businesses and include a networking lunch for workshop participants.

Workshop topics will range from taking your idea to a viable business; introduction to intellectual property; financing your business; incubators; how to identify and find talent; and the entrepreneurial leader.

The speakers include Martin Doyle, managing director of Ideationsandbox and Hanover Advisors, business consulting firms specializing in entrepreneurial companies; Christopher Haigh, a registered patent attorney practicing patent and trademark prosecution and intellectual property litigation; Chip Bailey, incubator director of the Holston Business Development Center and a Tennessee Small Business Development Center certified business counselor; Larry Nunley, founder and CEO of AccuForce Staffing services, a national human capital solutions company; Ginger Thaxton, an internationally acclaimed management consultant and trainer who is highly recognized in the staffing and recruitment industry for her knowledge, innovation and problem solving; and Glenn Swift, champion of the University of Tennessee’s MBA Innovation and Entrepreneurship curriculum and the 2006 Stokely Faculty Scholar Award winner for excellence in teaching.

Attendees at Innovation Expo can also visit exhibitor booths of businesses that provide products and services needed by new businesses. Representatives from these businesses will be available throughout the day to answer questions and help attendees explore possibilities for their ideas and businesses.

Event organizers are encouraging anyone interested in exploring the next steps of an idea, whether they consider themselves to be an entrepreneur or not, to visit Innovation Expo.

Booth exhibits will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with $5 admission. Workshop sessions will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include a networking lunch and admission to exhibitor booths for $75.

Workshop attendees can preregister at ideationsandbox.com, and walk-ins are welcome on the day of the event.

“We feel this area is full of people with great ideas seeking to start or grow business,” said Doyle. “We have recruited local and national experts with real hands-on experience for the workshops. Whether folks attend the workshops or just visit the exhibitor booths, we hope that all of our attendees will sit and talk with our vendors and come away with new insights and resources to realize their business goals.”

Innovation Expo and Workshop is being presented by Ideationsandbox and the University of Tennessee Innovation Center and is supported by the Kingsport Times-News.
