DUNGANNON — Two Scott County teenagers fishing in the Jefferson National Forest were held at gunpoint last week by two men posing as law enforcement officers but managed to escape the duo, say police.
Scott County Sheriff John Puckett said Tuesday that Terry Glenn Peak, 48, and Lewis Scott Summey, 40, both of Hanging Rock Parkway, Dungannon, have been charged with impersonating a police officer and two counts of abduction after approaching the teens twice along the creek bank last Tuesday, April 8.
One of the suspects approached the two boys, who had gone on the fishing trip after they had gotten out of school, pulled a gun and identified himself and his partner as federal agents, the sheriff said in a prepared statement. The bogus officer asked the two to present their fishing licenses, and after one of the teens saw the man’s driver’s license, the two teenagers fled in their car.
Peak and Summey allegedly cornered the teens again with guns drawn, this time informing the boys that they were state game wardens.
The two suspects told the boys that they were not leaving until they “got something good” and then asked them if they had any marijuana or pills they could give them, Puckett said.
Investigator J.P. Bledsoe noted that the two men told the teens that they were “on meth’’ during their second encounter.
The two boys then ran to their vehicle and tried to escape several times, with Peak and Summey blocking their route each time with their vehicle. The teens then managed to get by the duo and accelerate out the area and to their homes, where they later reported the incident to the Scott County Sheriff’s Department.
Although no clarification was given, Bledsoe said one of the suspects was arrested last Wednesday, while the other was taken into custody on Monday.
A .45-caliber handgun was seized at Peak’s residence by officers, which led to an additional charge of possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony being lodged against him.
Summey faces two additional charges of using a firearm in commission of a felony.
Both men are being held without bond in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Complex in Duffield and will appear in court later this week for a preliminary hearing.
