Businesss creations: Several businesses open in Tri-Cities region

KINGSPORT — Blake and Briana Swecker have opened SERVPRO of Kingsport/Bristol, a franchise of the national SERVPRO Industries Inc., founded in 1967.


The business offers a full line of fire and water cleanup and restoration services to help home and business owners.

Hunley’s Tire


KINGSPORT — Husband and wife team Gary and Katie Hunley have opened Hunley’s Tire at 1400 Bloomingdale Road, in front of Golf Carts to Go at the corner of Gravely and Bloomingdale.


The business carries all Cooper brand tires as well as a less expensive brand. It deals in both new and used tires.


Other services include oil changes and some brake work.


Gary Hunley has been in the tire business for 20 years. He previously was an employee and manager of Accel Tire on Stone Drive for more than 14 years.


“Gary always believed in good friendly customer service,” Katie Hunley said. “Gary’s dream was always to open his own tire store someday, and now that dream has become a reality.”


She credited the Kingsport Office of Small Business Development & Entrepreneurship for helping her husband launch the business.

Interiors Redefined


KINGSPORT — Leslie J. McCrackin, owner of Interiors Redefined, is now offering professional interior redesign services, home staging services and color consultation services for homeowners in the Tri-Cities and surrounding areas.


As a certified interior redesigner, McCrackin works directly with homeowners to enhance both the look and function of interior spaces by rearranging existing furniture, artwork, and accessories for maximum impact.


“In one day, Interiors Redefined will create the warm, inviting look you’ve always wanted in your home,” McCrackin said. “The process includes discussions with homeowners regarding what they like and dislike about the room. Pictures will also be taken of the room, and a walk-through of the rest of the house will be done to discover any hidden treasures that may be used in the redesign.


“The room will be completely cleared out to the bare walls, and then the furniture pieces will be arranged into a pleasing configuration. Finally, using the client’s own accessories and artwork, a room will be created that says ‘Welcome Home!’”


She said the entire redesign process for one room takes about four to five hours, making interior redesign less time consuming and less expensive than traditional interior design.


McCrackin, who is also a certified interior staging specialist, also provides guidance for homeowners who are preparing their homes for the real estate market.


Fans of HGTV will be familiar with the concept of home staging, as seen on the popular shows “Designed to Sell,” and “Get It Sold.”


McCrackin said home staging, or redesigning to sell, has proven to be an irreplaceable tool for homeowners who desire to sell their home in the least amount of time for the best price possible.


“This process includes an initial consultation (which can take two hours or more, depending on the square footage of the home), a written assessment of the home, and suggestions for improvements as needed,” she said. “Packages of staging services can then be created that will best serve the seller, both financially and time-wise. The staging process can take as little as one day or as long as a month, depending on the amount of improvements to be made.


“Deep-cleaning, de-cluttering, and de-personalizing are the main focal points of redesigning to sell, all of which can be done for much less money than cutting the price of a home to allow for repairs and updates after it enters the market.”


The business also offers color consultations, and McCrackin is a certified Dewey Color consultant.


“Although, a color consultation can be seen as an added expense, clients end up with custom colors that reflect their personality and the style of their home. Color consultations usually take at least an hour per room, yet most homeowners find it actually saves time in the long run. Having pre-selected colors in hand when entering the paint store can save both time and money.”

Nancy’s Diner


KINGSPORT — Nancy Schrier is now operating the snack bar at Traders Village, a three-building flea market at 2745 E. Stone Drive.


The flea market had been without any snack bar for a few months since the previous one closed in January. The new snack bar is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays.


“We have biscuits and gravy, sausage biscuits and egg biscuits plus coffee for breakfast. We serve the usual snack bar items such as nachos, burgers, hot dogs, etc., for lunch and snacks,” Schrier said. “Each week we will be offering specials like soup beans and corn bread, chili and corn bread and pulled pork sandwiches.”


Schrier said she managed a fast-food restaurant for four years and decided to go to a weekend-only business.


“I love the flea market,” she said. “The people are like one big family. There are three buildings and we have several booths that include new and used video games, tools, leather goods, jewelry, swords and much, much more. It’s a great place to come and spend the day for the whole family.”
