A check with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office reveals that thousands of warrants on file have not been served.
SCSO spokesman Cpt. Keith Elton estimated there currently are about 6,000 unserved criminal arrest warrants in the computer system.
While new warrants are issued daily in the county, Elton said the number includes old warrants that may never be served and out of state papers regarding alleged crimes committed by Sullivan County residents while outside the county.
There are also about 1,500 civil papers that have not been served, Elton said.
