Hawkins County man accused of aggravated statutory rape

ROGERSVILLE — A 30-year-old Rogersville man has been charged with aggravated statutory rape stemming from his alleged affair with an underage girl, although the suspect might want investigators to believe he’s the victim in this case based on the content of his police statement.

Curtis Jimmy Gilliam, 2013 Brown Drive, Rogersville, was questioned by Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Detective Cliff Evans last Thursday about the alleged affair, which was reported to have occurred about two months earlier.

Evans stated in his report that the victim was either 13 or 14 at the time of the crime.

Gilliam told the detective that one day a couple of months ago the girl went to his residence, came inside and began looking around.

“Gilliam states that (the girl) suddenly said that she wanted to have sex and then pushed him to the floor,” Evans stated in his report. “Gilliam told her no.”

Gilliam reportedly told the detective that it was the girl who exposed his privates, after which she disrobed, jumped on top of him and initiated intercourse.

Evans noted in his report that, according to Gilliam, “the two had sex for just a second and Gilliam continued to tell (the girl) to leave him alone. After this Gilliam was able to push (the girl) off of him and she got up, put her clothes back on and left.”

Gilliam reportedly acknowledged that he knew the girl was either 13 or 14 at the time of the incident. He was released on bond Friday pending his arraignment in Hawkins County Sessions Court on Wednesday.
