A former Sullivan North criminal justice teacher and assistant band director accused of embezzling band booster funds has called a halt to the prosecution's attempts to negotiate a plea bargain in the case.
Sullivan County Assistant District Attorney William Harper said Tuesday that
Greg White announced a plea of not guilty in a Blountville court on Friday.
A July 29 trial date has been set in the case, Harper said.
In an e-mail to Timesnews.net staff dated Dec. 13, White said he was “ready to go” to trial, and that Kingsport Police Department Detective Greg Lane was “stalling and upsetting the DA.”
White faces two counts of forgery, one count of theft over $500, and four worthless check charges after he was indicted Oct. 30.
On Oct. 2, White was convicted of uttering and obtaining money by fraud in Bristol, Va.
