A Kingsport resident and former Clinch School teacher and coach has been indicted on federal child porn charges.

Michael Eugene Noel, 37, of Kingsport, was indicted Tuesday on charges alleging receipt and possession of child pornography and obstructing justice. He was arrested Thursday by members of the Scott County Sheriff's Office, according to a Department of Justice press release.

The indictments were handed down by a federal grand jury in Greeneville after an investigation by the Kingsport Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the release says.

If convicted, Noel faces five to 20 years for the reciept of child pornography charge, up to ten years for the possession of child pornography charge and up to ten years on the charge of obstructing justice.

Fines upon conviction could amount to as much as $250,000 per count. He also faces the possibility of supervised release for life.

In Sullivan County, Noel was arrested in July and charged in connection with sexual battery, aggravated sexual battery, solicitation of sexual exploitation of a minor, and attempted especially aggravated exploitation of a minor charges.

The charges allege sex crimes against two players he coached on the Clinch boys varsity basketball team.

Hawkins County Sheriff Roger Christian told the Times-News in July that his department also launched an investigation into the possibility of inappropriate behavior between Noel and his former players or students. No charges have been announced as a result of that investigation.
