776th Maintenance Company on alert for possible mobilization

January 30th, 2008 12:00 am by Staff

ELIZABETHTON — The 776th Maintenance Company in Elizabethton and its detachment in Mountain City have received a warning alert for possible mobilization for Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Nate Crawford, a spokesman for the Tennessee National Guard’s Office of Public Affairs, said the units have not received mobilization orders, and it is not known when or if the units will be mobilized.

“What it means is that the units have a capability to perform a mission that the Pentagon has identified as needed,” Crawford said. “This alert gives them time to begin preparing for a mobilization, to process the paperwork and prepare the equipment and for the soldiers to get ready.”

The 776th is a support maintenance company. Its soldiers have the equipment and training to perform maintenance on most of the Army’s vehicles.

If the unit is mobilized, it would mark its third mobilization in the past 17 years.
