GATE CITY — A Gate City couple were arrested on charges of fraud and contributing to the delinquency of a minor Thursday.

Jamie Lynn Smith, 28, and Marlee J. Roark, 22, were arrested after Scott County Sheriff’s Office deputies found drugs that appeared to have been packaged for sale, according to Sheriff John Puckett. Officers also found cash, Puckett said.

A 13-month-old child was removed from the home and was placed with family members after a review by the Scott County Department of Social Services, police said.

Smith was charged with three felony drug violations, possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I or II controlled substance, a Schedule III controlled substance and a Schedule IV controlled substance.

Smith is also charged with felony criminal solicitation, five counts of obtaining money by false pretense, and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He is being held without bond in the Southwest Regional Jail in Duffield with an arraignment Wednesday in Scott County General District Court.

Roark was charged with one felony count of criminal solicitation and one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was released on a $5,000 secured bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.
