KINGSPORT — A Kingsport man’s bond has nearly tripled after he was jailed on charges alleging he slashed his wife’s throat when she stopped him from raping her daughter.

A judge upped the bond set for Earnest Lee “Jo Jo” Rector, 37, of 1925 Noble St., to $250,000 from $85,000. If he posts the new amount, it also carries the condition of him having no contact with his wife or stepdaughter.

Rector was arraigned last week on charges of attempted second-degree murder, attempted aggravated rape, aggravated assault, and especially aggravated kidnapping in connection to the Jan. 12 incident.

Rector is accused of attempting to rape his stepdaughter, 17, at knifepoint in an upstairs bedroom at their home. Police say although he was choking her, the teen stomped on the floor in an attempt to wake her mother, Valerie Rector, who was asleep in a bedroom directly below hers.

Valerie Rector woke to the sound of her 2-year-old son crying and allegedly found Earnest Rector on top of the girl when she went upstairs. When she pulled him off of the teen, Earnest Rector allegedly pushed her onto the floor and cut her throat before going downstairs and barricading himself in a bedroom.

Valerie Rector’s daughter got her a towel, and then Earnest Rector’s mother-in-law reportedly called 911 from another downstairs bedroom.

Valerie Rector was treated for her injury at Holston Valley Medical Center.
