Some thunderstorms moving across Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia may contain strong, gusting winds and cloud to ground lightning, according to the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Morristown.
Currently, the Morristown office has issued an immediate severe thunderstorm warning for Johnson County, including Mountain City.
At 2:30 p.m., NWS doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm potentially producing penny-sized hail and damaging winds exceeding 60 miles per hour.
This storm and other patches of severe weather across both regions are moving at approximately 30 miles per hour, NWS officials said.

Rain is expected to accumulate at rates between one-tenth and one-quarter of an inch per hour, with the potential for over an inch of precipitation per hour to accumlate during heavy thunderstorms, according to the current NWS forecast.
