The Tri-Cities Regional Airport Commission terminated the food and beverage service contract of airport restaurant operator Staci Robinson during a called meeting Thursday morning.
TCRA Executive Director Patrick Wilson indicated the move means that alcohol and beer sales will be suspended at the airport indefinitely - including during the upcoming NASCAR races held at Bristol Motor Speedway.
"This is an unfortunate situation, but our goal is to provide quality food and beverage service to everyone who uses the airport," Wilson said in a prepared release. "We know the lack of restaurant and bar facilities at the airport will affect our passengers, and we apologize for the inconvenience during the interim period. We will proceed as quickly as possible to evaluate proposals and select a new provider, but this is a lengthy process, and we are required to go out for competitive proposals."
The Airport Commission determined Robinson did not meet the requirements of a multi-year contract that began last December.
To bridge the gap in service, the Airport Commission voted to enter into an agreement with Canteen Vending Co. to offer vending products in the existing restaurant and in the concourse area.
