Kingsport police searching for man who robbed store, pistol whips clerk

KINGSPORT - Kingsport police are looking for a man who robbed the On The Run Market at 2306 Sullivan Gardens Parkway early Sunday morning and then pistol whipped the 49-year-old female clerk.

The incident occurred at 4:02 a.m. Sunday as the clerk was cleaning the store and had the front doors locked.

The suspect threw a rock through the glass door in the back area, entered, and located the clerk.

Police said the suspect forced her to the register area, demanded the money, and then after receiving it, struck her three times with the semiautomatic handgun he was carrying.

The suspect is described as black male, approximately 5-foot-10 to 6-foot tall and thin with medium build wearing a camouflage jacket, black hat, blue jeans, and a dark bandana.

The clerk suffered injuries to her head and was transported to Indian Path Medical Center where she was treated and later admitted.

The suspect fled from the store and it is unknown as to the amount of money taken by the suspect.
