A preliminary hearing for a Lee County man charged with first-degree murder was continued Wednesday in Lee County General District Court until July 20 at 9:30 a.m. while prosecutors wait for evidence to be returned from the state forensics laboratory.

Burlie Bernard Shepherd, 47, Route 1, Box 259-A, Keokee, is accused of stabbing Franklin Creed Robbins, 36, Route 1, Box 291, Keokee, once in the chest with a steak knife during an altercation at Robbins’ Reed Creek home late in the evening of June 3.

Shepherd allegedly fled immediately, and Robbins died at the scene.

Shepherd was taken into custody without incident the next day and is being held at the Duffield regional jail in lieu of $150,000 bond.
