1,208 of over 7,000 summonses were issued by VSP to drivers on I-81 on June 22-23 during Operation Air, Land & Speed VII.

According to VSP Division IV Sgt. Michael Conroy, 739 passenger vehicles and 23 commercial vehicles were stopped for speeding on the Division IV portion of I-81, while 2,110 total speeders were cited on I-81.

Conroy said the first ticket he issued Friday was to a driver travelling 95 mph in a 65 mph zone.

131 of I-81’s total 304 reckless driving citations also were issued in Conroy’s division.

A total of 10 drunk drivers were removed from the three interstates, I-81, I-77 and I-95. One of three drunk drivers taken off I-81 in Division IV was a commercial driver, which Conroy said was “very rare.”

Two felony drug arrests, two other felony arrests and 11 misdemeanor arrests were also made along I-81.

There reportedly were no fatalities during the two-day period on any of the targeted interstates.
