BRISTOL, Tenn. - A Bristol woman, Whitney Nicole Drake, is charged with attempted first-degree murder in the stabbing of Sheena Amber Rogers at a mobile home park on Bristol Caverns Highway. Rogers was transported by Wings Air Rescue to Johnson City Medical Center about 9 p.m. Thursday, according to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office. She was listed in stable condition Friday morning. Drake was being held in the Sullivan County Jail with bond set at $50,000. A man arrested in relation to the incident was taken to jail after allegedly kicking an ambulance at the scene. Police also arrested a second woman, Sara Marie Hamby, 19, of Bristol, Va. She is charged with accessory after the fact and false reporting for allegedly giving officers misleading information that hindered the investigation. She was also being held in the Sullivan County Jail with bond set at $50,000.


Jonesville to host bike rally, car show today

JONESVILLE - The town of Jonesville is hosting a Rally Around the Bowl Motorcycle and Car Show today beginning at 9 a.m. Registration for bike and car owners is $15 and includes dinner, a T-shirt and the cost of admission. Registration for bikers will be held from 9 until 10:30 a.m. Non-riding show bikes can be registered until 3 p.m., and car registration will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. A four-hour bike ride will begin at 11 a.m., starting from the mayor's office. The route will be from Jonesville to Duffield, Sneedville and Harrogate and back to Jonesville. A barbecue and other events will begin at 4 p.m. Admission is $1 per person and $3 per carload, with dinner available at an additional cost. For more information call (276)346-1151.

JONESVILLE - The Lee County School Board will conduct a rescheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the school board conference room. The meeting was rescheduled due to a conflict.

STICKLEYVILLE - Appalachian Sustainable Development Director Anthony Flaccavento will meet with Appalachian Harvest organic growers at Stickleyville Elementary School on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. to discuss a temporary location, site options and operations for the sorting, storage and shipping of their produce in the wake of a fire that destroyed the group's facility on May 15.


American Legion plans flag disposal ceremony

JONESVILLE - The American Legion Post No. 185 of Jonesville will have a flag disposal ceremony of unserviceable flags Tuesday at 7 p.m. Anyone having flags that need to be destroyed can leave them at the American Legion Building in Cumberland Bowl Park or bring them to the ceremony.


Forklift operator killed

GATLINBURG, Tenn. - A construction worker was killed Friday while operating a forklift. Travis Joe Williamson, 28, was working at a construction site at Westgate Resort when the forklift he was in overturned and pinned him, police said.
