Man trying to kill spider ends up in head-on collision in Tennessee

May 8th, 2007 12:24 am by Associated Press

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - A driver trying to swat a spider lost control of his car and struck another vehicle head-on, injuring another motorist seriously.

Kyle Malone, 21, said he was heading into a curve Sunday morning when he noticed the spider on his driver's side window. When he tried to hit the spider, he apparently lost control and swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting a car carrying a 32-year-old man and his 12-year-old son.

The driver of that vehicle, Brian Cornelius, was sent to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where he was in stable condition Monday, according to a hospital official.

His son was transported to Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville. His name and condition was not released.

Police said Malone was able to walk away from the crash and was later treated for neck pain.

"He was not at all hurt," said Officer Andy Bechtold with the Fatal Accident Crash Team.

Police said Cornelius was the only person not wearing a seat belt.
