WISE - The University of Virginia's College at Wise has received recognition by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for the planning and execution of two major campus events last year.
UVa-Wise received an Award of Excellence in the special events category for the concept and execution of the events surrounding the April 2006 inauguration of Chancellor David J. Prior.
Individuals recognized along with the award were the inauguration committee and the committee's two chairs, Academic Dean Amelia Harris and Executive Assistant to the Chancellor Marcia Quesenberry; Debra Wharton, director of special events; graphic artist Jenny Salyers; and Jane Meade-Dean, senior director of college relations.
UVa-Wise received an Award of Merit in the institutional relations category for last October's kickoff event that formally launched the college's "Fulfilling the Dream" capital campaign.
Wharton, Salyers, Meade-Dean and the UVa-Wise Office of Development and College Relations were also named in the award.
The college's winning entries were displayed during the CASE District III convention in Nashville and will be archived at the CASE International headquarters in Washington, D.C.
CASE is an organization that promotes the advancement of professionals at all levels who work in alumni relations, communications and development. CASE District III includes colleges and universities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
