North scores 10 unanswered runs to pick up Watauga win

KINGSPORT - The Sullivan North baseball team knows how to stage a comeback.


The Golden Raiders erased a six-run deficit with 10 unanswered runs and defeated Johnson County 10-6 on Monday in Watauga Conference action.


Jonah Arnold put on an impressive performance for North (11-13, 7-5), finishing with three hits, two of them triples, and five RBIs. Teammate Kory Morgan added two hits.


Matt Summey (5-1) went the distance for the pitching win.


Luke Arnold paced Johnson County with a pair of RBIs on three hits, while Ryan McQueen went 2-for-3.



KINGSPORT - Bo Burton tossed a five-inning no-hitter to guide the Indians to a convincing Big 9 Conference win over the Vikings.


Burton, who struck out five batters in his time on the mound, had two hits and three RBIs at the plate. Derek Trent, who belted his 12th home run of the season, picked up two RBIs on as many hits for Dobyns-Bennett (26-14).


Jamie Crawford also finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Tyler Joyce went 2-for-2 in the win.



BLUFF CITY - Logan Bowers hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to plate Tyler Gaby and give the Patriots a Big 9 victory over the Falcons.


Bowers scored a run to go along with his game-winning RBI for Sullivan East (15-7, 9-5). Miles Key and Brooks Graham scored the Patriots' other runs.


Matt Shepherd (4-0) scattered four hits and struck out eight batters to take the win.


Matt Fleenor went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Volunteer (10-13, 4-10) . Falcons pitcher Shaun Arnold (2-4) took the loss.







GRAY - The Trailblazers set the pace with an eight-run second inning in their Big 9 win over the Cougars.


Zac Breedlove (4-2) gave up five hits and allowed one run for Daniel Boone (15-8, 8-6).


Nick Caldwell recorded three hits and three RBIs, while Dylan Pratt finished with a home run, an RBI and three runs scored for the 'Blazers.



COEBURN - The Blue Knights went up 18-0 after two innings en route to the solid non-district win over the War Eagles.


Casey Gray went 3-for-3, including a double and a home run, with four RBIs to set the pace for Coeburn (9-2). Chris Large finished with three RBIs on three hits.


The Knights' David Hubbard (1-0) struck out eight batters and allowed one hit while on defense and collected three hits, one of them a double, and two RBIs on offense.


Adam Pearcy and Jacob Arwood accounted for Rye Cove's two hits.




BEN HUR - The Generals racked up eight runs on 15 hits to down the Blue Devils in non-district play.


Adam Burke paced Lee High (5-2) with three hits and three RBIs, while Josh Woodard went 3-for-4 with an RBI.


Bobby Stafford and Justin Terry each collected a pair of hits.



John Pope led Gate City with a double and an RBI.




KINGSPORT - The Lady Raiders relied on solid pitching to defeat the Lady Titans in this interstate tilt.


Alicia Taylor (4-14) pitched a two-hit shutout for Sullivan North (4-14, 0-10).


Megan Dixon finished with a single, a double and an RBI to set the offensive pace for the Lady Raiders. Heather Harmon and Brittany Rock scored North's runs.


Twin Springs pitcher Courtney Lell struck out 14 North batters and allowed just four hits.



KINGSPORT - The Lady Indians stayed right in the Big 9 Conference title race with a win over the Lady Cougars.


Danielle Zimmerman (15-9) scattered six hits while striking out seven with no walks to earn the win.


Zimmerman also led the charge at the plate for D-B (19-10, 12-2), going 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs. Ashley Christian went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Heather Qualls added two hits and an RBI.


Sam Gilmartin went 2-for-3 and knocked in a run for Sullivan Central.





KINGSPORT - In the top of the seventh inning, Megan Smith doubled home Lindsay Loudermilk for the decisive run in the Lady Patriots' Big 9 Conference victory.


Rica Olegario went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for East (9-11, 5-8). Smith went the distance for the pitching victory.


Catcher Katelin Henson had two hits and an RBI for the Lady Rebels (6-20, 3-11). Her batterymate, Tasha Waye (4-13), took the loss.




BRISTOL, Tenn. - Paige Copas fanned nine batters and the Lady Falcons reeled off eight runs in the third inning to defeat the Lady Vikings in Big 9 play.


Lauren Kirk finished with two hits to pace Volunteer (15-16, 9-5), while Chanoa Bledsoe added a double and two RBIs. Natasha Dean also collected a pair of RBIs and Rebecca Hillman pitched in with a double.


Copas (15-8) went the distance in the win.




GATE CITY - A pair of home runs highlighted a lopsided Lonesome Pine District victory for the Lady Blue Devils.


Haley Odle swatted a two-run homer in the fourth inning. One frame later, Kaitlin Lane crushed a grand slam as part of a five-run fifth.


Heather Odle went 4-for-4 for Gate City (10-3, 5-1). Lindsey Burke was 3-for-4.


Winning pitcher Shianna Grills (5-2) held the Lady Raiders (3-9, 2-7) to one hit.


WISE - Marie Chandler struck out 16 Lady Indians while allowing only a single hit, and Powell Valley rolled to an LPD win.


Six different players tallied hits for the Lady Vikings (10-4, 5-3). Chandler's line also included nine walks and a pair of hit batters.


Kalen Collins (3-9) took the loss for Kelly (4-10, 2-6).





JONESVILLE - The Lady Generals rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth but it wasn't enough as they fell to Middlesboro, Ky.


Chelsea Brock led Lee High (5-6) with three hits, including a triple, and an RBI.


Middlesboro (10-7) had four batters with two hits each.
