D-B uses long ball to roll over Sullivan East

BLUFF CITY - Dobyns-Bennett launched three home runs in the fourth inning and overpowered Sullivan East to earn a 12-3 Big 9 Conference baseball win Tuesday.


The game was tied going into the fourth when Easton Ring and Tyler Joyce each hit solo homers and Derek Trent added a two-run shot. Ring smacked a three-run homer in the seventh inning for good measure, finishing the game with five RBIs.


Jordan Adams had three hits for the Tribe while Wesley Lane and Joyce added two hits each.


Joyce (8-1) also struck out 11 batters and went the distance to earn the win for D-B (23-4, 12-0).


Brooks Graham had two hits for East (12-7, 7-5). Logan Bowers (2-3) struck out nine batters in five innings of work.


MOSHEIM - The Raiders smacked two home runs in the first inning and a grand slam in the fifth to down the Buffaloes in Watauga Conference play.


Greg Overbay hit a solo home run on his first at-bat for North (10-9, 6-5). He finished the game with three hits and three RBIs.


Matt Summey (4-1) struck out nine batters while on the mound and had one of the first-inning homers, with two RBIs on two hits. Brandon White chipped in two hits and the grand slam to finish with four RBIs.


Mikey Cox went 3-for-5 to pace West Greene.


COEBURN - The Blue Knights came up with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete a come-from-behind Lonesome Pine District win.


Chris Large's RBI hit tied the game in the seventh and freshman Andrew Tate rapped a two-out single to plate the winning run.


Tate finished with three hits while Large (5-0) tossed a scoreless seventh inning to earn the win for Coeburn (7-2, 5-2).


Brian Murphy took the loss for Powell Valley (6-3, 4-3)


GATE CITY - The Blue Devils plated 11 runs in the first frame and never looked back in a five-inning LPD win.


Jordan Estep and Luke Kirk each went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Gate City (4-4, 4-2) while Trey Clark was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs.


John Pope (1-2) earned the win. Chase Beverly took the loss for the Wildcats (4-6, 0-6).


APPALACHIA - The Indians scored 17 runs in the first two innings to post a convincing LPD win over the Bulldogs.


Cody Bentley got things going early for J.J. Kelly (6-4, 6-1) with a grand slam in the first inning. Bentley led the Indian offense with three hits and six RBIs, while Zack Clifton added three RBIs on two hits. Justin Wilson and Zak Sturgill also finished with two hits each.


NICKELSVILLE - The Titans reeled off 10 unanswered runs to down the Eagles at home for a Cumberland District victory.


Matt Mullins sparked Twin Springs (5-4, 1-2) with a double and three RBIs, while Gavin Meade chipped in three RBIs.


Chris Jordan (3-0) pitched six innings to grab the win.


Zack Manis scored Rye Cove's only run.


CASTLEWOOD - Ryan Phillips scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the sixth to lift the Blue Devils to the Cumberland win.


Phillips finished with three hits and three runs scored for Castlewood (8-3, 4-0). His brother, Matt, was a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI and Dylan Harding finished with a double and an RBI.


Zack Hicks took the loss for St. Paul (7-5, 3-1).


EWING - Twin Springs pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of eight Thomas Walker errors to pick up a Cumberland District road win.


Courtney Lell (5-4) fired a one-hitter and struck out nine to pick up the win for the Lady Titans (5-4, 4-0). Lell also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.


Keisha Boggs had three hits and three RBIs for Twin Springs while Katie Lane, Taneisha Wallen and Dakota McCoy had two hits apiece.


ST. PAUL - The Lady Deacons capitalized on eight Lady Rebel errors and amassed 13 hits to cruise to a Cumberland District win.


Lindsey Dickenson went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to pace St. Paul (7-7, 3-1). Hayley Kiser finished 3-for-4 with four runs scored, while Brittany Russell scored five runs and collected a pair of hits.


CASTLEWOOD - Kelsey Addington went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI as the Lady Blue Devils held off Rye Cove in Cumberland District action.


Heather Lawson (2-2) pitched a three-hitter for Castlewood (7-4, 1-2). She struck out five and walked none.


APPALACHIA - Erin Wilson (2-0) scattered three hits and tossed a shutout to lead the Lady Bulldogs past the Lady Raiders in LPD action. Wilson also made an impact at the plate, finishing with a double and two RBIs for Appalachia (8-2, 5-2).


Lauren Howard paced the Lady Bulldog batters with two runs scored and an RBI on two hits. Courtney Barnett and Leigha Lambert both went 2-for-3.


JONESVILLE - The Lady Vikings racked up 15 hits in an impressive non-district win over the Lady Generals.


Kayla Holdway took the win on the mound and led Powell Valley (9-3, 5-2) with three hits and an RBI. Morgan Haines went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Cassie Sturgill had two hits and two RBIs.


Kristi Cress' 3-for-4 outing was tops for Lee High (5-5).


BLOUNTVILLE - The Lady Falcons scored five runs in the third to post a solid Big 9 win against the Lady Cougars (5-17, 1-11).


Mackenzie Draine led Volunteer (11-3, 8-5) with two hits and a pair of RBIs, while April Byington finished with a double.


Paige Copas (11-8) fanned six batters to pick up the victory.


KINGSPORT - The Indians unleashed 31 shots on goal and steamrolled the Pioneers in District 1-AAA action.


David Geno scored two goals and added an assist for D-B and Daniel Murphy added a pair of goals. Ryan Herlong, Ramon Menya and Colton Clark chipped in with a goal and two assists each for the Tribe (6-1-1).


D-B's smothering defense allowed Crockett to get off just one shot on goal.
